Joe Purdy’s Tribute to Danny Federici

Thursday, February 19, 2009 By Mayer Danzig

Longtime E Street Band organist Danny Federici passed in 2008 after a battle with cancer. Before he died, Federici and his family established the Danny Fund to educate people on the dangers of sun exposure and melanoma. The organization is also raising funds to support research in search of a cure.

Los Angeles musician Joe Purdy recently released a song to aid the cause. Here is an excerpt from the letter that Jason Federici, Danny’s son, wrote about the song.

“Carnival On High” is a beautiful song written by my talented friend Joe. I ran into my old pal Joe in NY by chance while my father was in the hospital and not doing so well. Joe canceled his ticked home and played for my Dad every night until he passed. This is the song Joe wrote for him and played at his funeral.

All I can say is thank you Joe.
