So you wanna be a rock and roll star? If only it were so simple. Songwriter and film-maker Chris Valenti learned the hard way. He recorded Emotional Wreck, his debut cd, manufactured 1,000 copies and, well, stacked 800 of ‘em in the corner of his apartment.
What might have been a discouraging experience for some turned into opportunity for Valenti. The aspiring film-maker (with the full-length feature musical Sensitive Johnson to his credit) chronicled his experience in the new documentary 800 CDs.
Billed as “the story of one music artist trying desperately to sell out,” the film is interspersed with interviews of fellow musicians and industry consultant Tim Sweeney. It is filled with tips for similarly challenged musicians but, thanks to Valenti’s comedic sensibilities, entertaining enough for the rest of us.
Perhaps one of those 800 cds may even find a place in your home! To celebrate the movie’s release, Valenti is giving one lucky resident of Twangville a copy of the movie and the album that inspired it.
