Who Shook You All Night Long?

Thursday, October 25, 2007 By Mayer Danzig

There will always be great debates in rock and roll. What was the first rock and roll song? Who was responsible for the Beatles break-up? What do the lyrics of “Louie Louie” really mean? Who was the better vocalist for AC/DC, Bon Scott or Brian Johnson?

Associate Professor Robert Oxoby of the University of Calgary attempted to bring some closure to the last of these questions. His paper, “On the Efficiency of AC/DC: Bon Scott versus Brian Johnson” was published earlier this year. Applying game theory to the question, Professor Oxoby put Scott and Johnson to the test.

So who is the better vocalist? You’ll need to read Professor Oxoby’s paper to find out. But remember, whether its Scott or Johnson the key lesson remains the same: it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll.
