Set to launch today, August 1st, the very first social networking site built around the Americana music scene. Emugga.com was created by Gregg Geil and the folks over at AmericanaRoots.com as an extension of the music news, reviews, podcasts and interviews already covered there.
As described by Mr. Geil:
- What is an Emugga?
No clue but the name is a song title from one of my favorite Austin bands (that has sense departed) called Soulhat. It’s a catchy name, no real meaning but then again what the heck does Google & Yahoo mean anyway?- Why did you launch Emugga.com?
I personally have long since wanted to build a social networking site dedicated solely to Americana. If you look around at the Americana scene, you see a large community of music fans. Given that the current music industry is in shambles, CD shelve space is long since history and indie music shops are closing there doors I feel that there is a real need for a strong music focused community.- Isn’t this just Myspace?
Yes & No. Myspace was great when it launched but has long since lost it’s focus on the music. Emugga.com is a portal that is directly tied to AmericanaRoots.com. The concept is directly tied to exploring new Americana music.- How is this tied to AmericanaRoots.com?
Emugga.com is the social arm of AmericanaRoots.com. We will continue to be the #1 resource of Americana music news, review, interviews & podcasts on AmericanaRoots.com and Emugga.com will serve as a place where music fans can explore interactively to find & buy new music.
I’ve already got my profile set up and have begun to add a few of the available songs to my very own radio station. Go on over and check it out. When you sign up, make sure to add me as a friend.
