First things first, as you might well know, the movie “A Prairie Home Companion” is officially out in theaters. Make no excuses on this one, kids, it’s a must-see. The soundtrack is stellar, but I won’t get into it here because it deseves it’s own post. Now for the summer tours.  You’re going to have to bear with me here, ’cause there’s a lot going on that I want to make sure you hear about.  And yes, the length of this post can, at least in part, be attributed to Alberto, who is currently trying his hardest to flood the state. On with the music!
- For starters, my beloved Marc Broussard is on tour this summer and he keeps adding dates, including one at the Ryman with Bela Fleck. If you can make it to any of his shows, be sure that you do, his is one of the best live shows I have ever seen. If you come to the Orlando show next week, keep your eyes peeled, for I will be there, dancing like an idiot.
- Next up is Mr. James Taylor. As of right now his tour does not have many dates, but, once again, he is one of those people you should see if it is at all physically possible.Â
- As of June 17th, Jamie Cullum will be touring in the States again for a few weeks, and while he doesn’t quite fit the ‘twang’ genre, his show is an exhibition of pure energy, not to mention talent. He’s a little British jazz singer with a powerful voice and a taste for heavy metal.
- Matt Costa is roving the country this summer as well, along with Elvis Perkins and Greg Laswell. Three great performers together promise one great night of music.
- The ever-fabulous Medeski, Martin and Wood are traveling the globe this summer, but thankfully roughly half of their stops are state-side. If you appreciate a good musician, you’ll remember this show for years to come.
- And now, since I’ve already strayed from the twang with Mr. Cullum and MMW, I just have to add that some of my favorite ska bands are touring together this summer. My secret musical love is ska/punk. It’s just my thing. And this summer Reel Big Fish, MXPX, Streetlight Manifesto and Whole Wheat Bread are touring together. If you come here looking strictly for Twang, ignore this bit and I apologize, but hot damn this tour is a good one. If you like happy music or maybe just want to expand your musical horizons, check it out.
Okay, I think that’s it for now. Time to brave the rain and leave the house. Cheers!
