Here in the Land ‘O Twang, we like to keep our roots in guitar-driven tunes, however, today I propose that we expand our current understanding of the term ‘twang’ to include ukulele-centered music as well.  Allow me to introduce you to the band Beirut.  Here’s their song “Postcards From Italy” which is currently tearing up the blogs:
[audio:http://www.beirutband.com/mp3/Beruit_Postcards%20From%20Italy.mp3]Led by 19-year-old Zach Condon, Beirut’s debut album is guitar-free, instead experimenting with a “Trumpet from Paris, farfisa organ, accordion, piano, ukelele, mandolin, glockenspiel, violin, cello, tambourine, The air powered organ I bought on twelth street, Congo drum donated from the neighbors….A broken microphone stolen from the university of new mexico,” acording to the band’s MySpace. The summer music keeps getting better.
