My pick of the week:
Robinella
Solace for the Lonely
(Dualtone)
americana, folk, bluegrass, jazz
A great week for new releases. I have to admit, I’m only moderately familiar with most of these. Up until today, my pick of the week would have been Ray Davies having listened to his Thanksgiving Day EP late last year. I still expect greatness from Davies, its just that I previewed two other fantastic albums yesterday among others, Robinella and Jesse Harris stood out from the rest. After a second listen, my pick of the week goes to Robinella. The album tracks delve into folk, bluegrass and jazz making for a very interesting album. Also, not that it should influence my pick but I just love the cover art. You can listen to the Solace for the Lonely for a limited time on AOL Music.
On the other hand, I also found Jesse Harris’s new album to be very intriguing. He is best known for his work with Norah Jones and like many other current artists, he will likely be compared to the late Elliott Smith. I haven’t yet heard the albums from Willie Nile and Cowboy Mouth, but my expecations are high after reading Mayer’s post.
Other notable releases for week of February 21, 2006 from:
Gary Bennett, Deadstring Brothers, Jesse Harris, Eels, Ray Davies, Willie Nile, Janis Ian, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Eef Barzelay (Clem Snide), Arctic Monkeys, Cowboy Mouth and Maximo Park
