August 2005 Playlist

Monday, August 01, 2005 By Tom Osborne

Okemah and the Melody of Riot

  1. Baby C’mon, Stephen Malkmus.
Former Pavement member rockin’ on his third solo album. Available as a free download on Amazon.com
  2. Paralyzed, Bob Mould.
I love this guitar-heavy song. Bob Mould is back! Another free download available from Red Eye Distribution.
  3. The Night I Lost My Head, Maximo Park.
A nice little pop song out of Newcastle, northern England. Find this download on their SXSW bio page.
  4. Moment is Now!, The Zincs.
This band hails from Chicago. Also find this one on SXSW.
  5. Empty Room, Marjorie Fair.
This song was featured as a free download in the iTunes store in July.
  6. Afterglow 61, Son Volt.
Jay Farrar rebuilt the band and created their first new album in 8 years. It was worth the wait.
  7. Summerlong, Kathleen Edwards.
Another great tune from the Back to Me album.
  8. Thunderbird, John Hiatt.
A folsky tribute to his car of the title name.
  9. Glory of True Love, John Prine.
A from the heart tune from Prine’s first album in many years.
  10. Hendersonville, Last Train Home.
A song about a visit to Johnny & June’s gravesite.
  11. My Love Will Keep, Adrienne Young.
A love song from Adrienne’s new album.
  12. Where Am I Now, Shelby Lynne.
This album is hit or miss. This tune will be found on her greatest hits someday.
  13. Mists of Down Below, The Duhks.
A very unique band in today’s music scene that will certainly be considered for some awards for this album. Their video of this song turned me on to the single.
  14. Time, The Greencards.
Fans of Allison Krauss & Union Station will love this tune.
  15. Must Be the Whiskey, Carrie Rodriguez & Chip Taylor.
    A nice little duet.
  16. Celtic New Year, Van Morrison.
An artist with “the Midas touch”.
