July 2005 Playlist

Sweet Somewhere Bound

  1. It’s the Night Time, Josh Rouse.
Another great tune from the Nashville album.
  2. To Somewhere Else, The Soundtrack of Our Lives.
I love the restrained energy of this one. It reminds me a little of the Moody Blues.
  3. Kingdom Come, Coldplay.
Not a band you would typically see on Twangville but this one tune is in the realm with a little chang-chang of the guitar.
  4. When Will You Come Back Home, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals.
Another great song off the Cold Roses album.
  5. Write a Letter Home, Jackie Greene.
Off one of my favorite albums of the year, even though it is a re-release.
  6. The Reminder, Maia Sharp.
Found this free download on Amazon.com.
  7. To Be Alone With You, Sufjan Stevens.
I’m not an O.C. fan (I swear), but I heard this great song on the soundtrack. Reminds me a little of Elliot Smith.
  8. Hit the Ground, Lizz Wright.
Formerly a jazz singer, Lizz says she was inspired for this album by a Sarah McLaughlan song. Sounds a little more inspired by Norah Jones to me. Whatever the inspiration, this is album is a real nice listen.
  9. When the Music’s Not Forgotten, Deadman.
A free download off of iTunes this month. A good tune.
  10. Stranded, Van Morrison.
He’s still cranking out great songs.
  11. Woke Up This Mornin’, Ruthie Foster.
So far my favorite blues album this year.
  12. Seven Nights in Eire, Reckless Kelly.
Another great song off the Wicked Twisted Road album.
  13. Lonesome Blues, Shooter Jennings.
Surely, his song “4th of July” will be overplayed this month. Here’s an alternative.
  14. Love’s a Word I Never Throw Around, The Greencards.
Nice bluegrass tune from this years SXSW web site.
  15. Heartbreak Number Nine, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
I saw this bluegrass band play this song at the “Prarie Home Companion” show at Wolf Trap. The next day I heard it several more times in rotation on DirectTV’s bluegrass station. It quickly grew on me. Also available as a download from SXSW web site.
  16. Sinkhole (Live), Drive-By Truckers.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite bands.
