Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit With Special Guest Amanda Shires

Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington, DC: May 20, 2011

Post by Suzanne D. McMahon (Suzanne Davis Photography)

It was a balmy evening in Washington, DC when I headed out to see my current favorite band, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit. Since I was particularly smitten with the new album “Here We Rest,” I was extremely excited for the show. I had seen Isbell play with the Drive-By Truckers and I knew it would be a good time. He didn’t disappoint.

The appearance of Amanda Shires added to an evening of great music. Shires played fiddle prominently on the song “Codeine” and a few others. She fit in well with the band and you can tell from the photo below that Isbell was delighted to have her on stage. Shires is a very talented musician in her own right. Be sure to check out her album “Carrying Lightening.”

The air conditioning system was broken so it was a sweaty night of rock & roll!

Photos taken with a Canon Rebel SLR using 50mm f/1.4 and 70-200mm lenses.
