We open and close this month with Justin Currie, first a special profile then a recent live performance of “If I Ever Loved You,” a personal favorite from the new release. Picking up the tempo, the Deadstring Brothers then rip up a Nashville club with “Ain’t No Hidin’ Love” before former Nashville native Steve Earle croons his “Tennessee Blues.” Fellow Nashville native Will Hoge continues with a solo rendition of “When I Can Afford to Lose” before Joe Henry talks about his latest album and highlights a few tracks.
Ha Ha Tonka battle a beach ball during a rocking performance of “St. Nick on the Fourth in a Fervor” followed by Bruce Springsteen leading a rousing sing-along for the instant classic “Girls in Their Summer Clothes.” You’ll get dueling Buck Owens tributes from the Two Dollar Pistols and Dwight Yoakam, respectively plus a few extra clips from Justin Currie and Will Hoge, the artists of the month. And to prove that John Doe actually DOES play “Fourth of July” live, I found a June 2007 clip of Doe with his “Rockin’ Band.” Enjoy.
