Michael Stipe and REM are in an elite group of lyricists and songwriters. Sometimes oblique but always engaging, the band catalogue has captured listeners attention globally for more than 25 years.
The band will release a performance cd/dvd, the aptly titled “REM Live,” on October 16th. The show was recorded at Dublin’s Point Theater in February 2005. While the show leans heavily on recent material, it also includes hits like “The One I Love” and early gem “Don’t Go Back to Rockville.”
To celebrate the release, we’re raiding the Twangville General Store! Post a comment about your favorite REM lyric and you’ll be elgible to win a copy of “REM Live.” A winner will be chosen at random. Contest ends Thursday, October 11th at midnight ET.*
In anticipation of the release, enjoy a preview that includes the hits “Orange Crush” and “Man on the Moon.”
*By participating in this contest you agree to allow Twangville to forward your contact info to 820 Media and to post your name and city on our web site. We will never use your info for any other reason.

My fave lyric would have to be….”Yeah, she’s a sad tomato, She’s three miles of bad road”. Because, haven’t we all known a girl we thought that of? She is never the girl that thinks other people think that of her though…

You, I thought I knew you. You I cannot judge.
You, I thought you knew me, This one laughing quietly underneath my breath. Nightswimming
…Perfection

The best R.E.M. lyrics were the unitelligible ones from the early years though Swan Swan H was always a persona favorite for some reason. “Night wings, her hair chains / Swan, swan, hummingbird /Hurrah, we are all free now / What noisy cats are we /Long, low time ago, people talk to me /A pistol hot cup of rhyme, / The whiskey is water, the water is wine”

my favorite song is also my first favorite REM video - Losing My Religion
oh, life is bigger, it’s bigger than you, and you are not me. the lengths that i would go to. the distance in your eyes. oh no i’ve said too much. i’ve set it up. that’s me in the corner. that’s me in the spotlight. losing my religion. trying to keep out you and i don’t know if i can do it. oh no i’ve said too much. i haven’t said enough.

Cuyahoga is one of my favorite songs - being from Northeast Ohio originally -
ohh yah…. Go Tribe
Let’s put our heads together, start a new country up,
Underneath the river bed we burned the river down.
This is where they walked, swam, hunted, danced and sang,
Take a picture here, take a souvenir
Cuyahoga
Cuyahoga, gone
