Tommy Womack’s biography from his website starts out like the following: “My name is Tommy Glynn Womack.  Skot Willis once said I was the craziest person he’d ever met who had his life together.  Todd Snider says I’m the only person he’s ever met in Nashville who’s crazier than he is.  So I must be crazy, I guess.  I can’t tell.  Crazy for most folks must just be what normal feels like for me.”Â
On his third solo album, There I Said It!, Womack sings about going crazy, how to stop it, life in his 40’s, his family and many other tidbits that must have been on his mind at the time of recording. Its truly one of the most personal albums (or it at least it seems that way to me) I’ve heard in a long time and has some of the best one-liners as well.
The standout track is “Nice Day” in which Womack takes a simple day at a friend’s pool and pretty much sums up the state of his life with lines such as, “It was at a friend’s house/we got invited/we can’t afford a swimming pool ourselves.”  Or, “I’ve got a shaky sense of self esteem/but in the water/the look on that boy’s face/for a moment life was not a bad dream.” Yeah, it’s a little sad, but I sure as hell can relate to those moments in life where everything seems just right. One of those moments you’d like to freeze in time and be able to go back to at any point.Â
Other notables on the album include “Alpha Male & the Canine Mystery Blood” which is a hilarious and insightful rant on band names, politics, his son and his younger years. “Too Much Month at the End of the Xanax” is a bluesy tune that states “45 pills take one twice a day”…you do the math. “I’m Never Gonna Be a Rock Star” has to be a song to his wife admitting that he’s not going to “make the big time.” The responding female vocal sings, “Think about your home and your family/Look in the mirror and repeat after me…” “A Cockroach After the Bomb” takes another look at Womack, “I get real depressed and tell everybody/that’s what makes me unique.”Â
Anyone who takes antidepressants will certainly enjoy this album, but that’s not a requirement. On a side note, it’ll probably make my “Top 10” list for 2007…if I have such a list.  Â
