Mayer’s Playlist for July 2007, A Video Companion

“My name is Jason Isbell. This is my fabulous rock and roll band The 400 Unit. And we need more whiskey as soon as anybody can get it up to the stage.” Quite the fitting kick-off to the July video companion…

This month’s video companion bears a certain similarity to a full bottle of Jack — it goes down smooth but is guaranteed to hit you right between the eyes. We’ve got a few choice Isbell tracks, including a solo version of the moving “Dress Blues”. Plus a selection of Buffalo Tom clips, some recent live stuff plus a vintage video for the stellar “Taillights Fade.”

In the covers category, we’ve got Marty Stuart and Steve Earle covering Buddy Holly’s “Crying, Waiting, Hoping,” the Gourds whooping it up on the Stone’s “Miss You” and Social Distortion’s incendiary take on the late Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.”

And don’t miss Mike Errico proving that he is as powerful a performer live as he is on record.
