My full album stream pick of the week goes to What Made Milwaukee Famous. Its hard to believe Trying to Never Catch Up is the debut album for the Austin-based band as they’ve been at it for a while now. In reality, this is a reissue with some bonus tracks but it represents their first album with label support from new found friends, Barsuk records. The first time they crossed my radar was on an episode of Austin City Limits. One listen and I was instantly hooked. Stylisticly, their sound could be grouped in indie and rock genres. If you like Spoon, The Strokes or Brendan Benson, you’ll love these guys. After a first listen to the album, my favorite songs are “Mercy, Me”, “Hellodrama”, “Hopelist”, and “Sweet Lady”. Catch them touring later this year with Seattle-based The Long Winters.
