Wilson Pickett, 1941-2006

We’ve lost another soul legend with the passing of Wilson Pickett. Best known for two of the most memorable rhythm and blues classics, “Mustang Sally” and “In the Midnight Hour”, Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. Pickett The music world lost a legend with the passing of Wilson Pickett.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, Pickett is best known for the Stax rhythm and blues classic “In the Midnight Hour” and “Mustang Sally.” Dig into his catalog, however, and you’ll find a wealth of Southern soul treasures. His 1966 cover of Cannibal and the Headhunter’s “Land of 1,000 Dances” outshone the original while his 1968 take on “Hey Jude” gave a certain band a run for their money.

    “Mustang Sally” is one of the greatest songs of all time. Not a festival passes without someone playing it. Pickett will truly be missed. Apparently, he lived in my town before he passed on. Why didn’t I know this?
