Readers’ Pick: My Old Familiar Friend by Brendan Benson

My Old Familiar Friend by Brendan Benson

Twangville readers picked My Old Familiar Friend by Brendan Benson as their favorite release for week of August 18, 2009. With his fourth solo LP Brendan Benson teams up with producer Gil Norton (Pixies, Maximo Park, Foo Fighters, Gomez) to deliver 11 new tracks. The music has been in the works since as early as 2007 while Benson was performing and touring with The Raconteurs. The new record packs a punch from the very beginning with opening track “A Whole Lot Better”. Benson channels McCartney with “You Make a Fool Out of Me” which crescendos with a cacophony of violins. “Misery” is fittingly all drums and organ, nice! A solid release.
