Joe Pug, American Troubadour

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 By Mayer Danzig

Joe PugChicago musician Joe Pug has spent the better part of the past year with a guitar over his shoulder. Since releasing his debut ep Nation of Heat in spring of 2008, Pug has followed in the figurative footsteps of Woody Guthrie by performing his music whenever and wherever he can.

And like the great folk masters, Pug keeps his melodies simple so that the focus is maintained on the storytelling. Whether he is pleading with a lover or reflecting on the politics or war, his songs resonate with a precious intimacy.

While he works on his debut full-length release, Pug recently released In the Meantime, an ep of five songs from the Nation of Heat sessions (Read Kelly’s Nation of Heat review here).

Best of all, you can download In the Meantime simply by providing your email address below or via Pug’s web site.
