Win Big! A Dar Williams Give-Away

by in Acoustic, Contests, Pop, Videos

Dar WilliamsDar Williams cranks it up a notch on Promised Land, her latest release. Returning from a three year recording hiatus Williams transforms her folk roots into a more pop-oriented sound. Lead-off track “It’s Alright” is a great example: a happy-go-lucky melody highlighted by William’s bright lyrics and gentle voice. As if to prove the point, Williams covers poppers-extraordinaire Fountains of Wayne’s “Troubled Times.”

To celebrate the new release, Twangville is giving away a copy of the cd and a limited edition lithograph of the album cover art. In the spirit of the season, post a comment with your favorite Halloween costume to be eligible to win. A winner will be selected at random when the contest ends on Thursday, 10/30/08 at midnight ET.**

Oh man – one year I was a die (like the kind you roll). My buddy was a monopoly game. It was an incredibly awkward costume, but really fun. People kept spinning me around, though.

I cut too big an eye hole in a simple sheet one year trying to make a ghost costume. Making the hole big enough to fit around my neck seemed the inevitable next step. Adding a yellow beret and a yellow collar was inspired.

Final result: one fried egg costume.

Simple, elegant, and chock full of cholesterol-y goodness.

One Year, I went as a charity box. The type that are found on the counters in grocery stores. Being from New England, I went as a Jimmy Fund box. It didnt take much work, finding the box, decorating but it was hard to travel in it… didnt quite fit behind the drivers wheel with that box on.

One year, I came up with an ingenious plan. I wanted a unique and cheap costume that I coule put together real quick. Threw on some Monster Mash and put my mind to work. My mind was definitely missing the train. Every idea ended up in my brain trashcan. Then it hit me. A bag of trash. I took a big brown trash bag and put a couple of wholes for my feet and then my arms. Got in and filled it with old newspaper. Taped some good ole trash to the outside. Was a hit at the party and won the contest they had.

Boyhowdy, that sounds like a really fun outfit. Never had been able to get a good costume done my self. But I managed to be a cookie last time.

I like the sound of being a charity box for a costume event, thinking of all the charitable donations. I went last year to a costume party as a fortune teller in a box, like the one out of the movie “BIG” although it is a commercial outfit , it created alot of attention.
