ACL Fest Schedule?: Let’s Here It!!!

Hey guys, I am getting ready to head to the ACL Festival in a couple of weeks. I have quickly put together a rudimentary schedule for the bands I want to see. I may have left some stuff out, so let me know what you think!!

KELLY’S TENTATIVE ACL FEST SCHEDULE

About the author: I likes me some wine, women and waffles, not always in that order (but usually). Chaucer is cool, but fart jokes are even better. You feel like spikin' your country with a little soul or mix in a little rock without the roll? Lemme hear from ya!!

It looks pretty good, but Blues Traveler over Okkervil River…WTF???

  2. KellyNo Gravatar Says:

Yeah, i gave that one some thought, and I’l be honest, i am a sucker for BT. This will be one of the many that get the “couple of songs here/couple of songs there” treatment that one must employ quite often at these types of festivals.

ACL is a shit festival now because of people like you who attract Foo Fighters.

Ok, dude. Go back and look at the bigger names from previous years of ACL (only in its 7th year, btw). Sheryl Crow, REM, Tom Petty, John Mayer etc…there have been tons of rock acts that may or may not suck headline the show, so it hasnt changed in the slightest in that regard, there are fewer jam-bands and the line-up is likely more diverse than ever. Also, look at the other BIG festivals like Lolla, Virgin, even Coachella (Jack Johnson?) and Bonnaroo (Metallica, Jack Johnson??). They ALL bring in the obligatory big-ticket rock act to help bring folks in. I think it wil take ACL a lot longer than 7 years to go from “awesome and unique” to the level that you so eloquently described…

I saw Heartless Bastards a few years back and wasn’t crazy about them. Also, you are passing on Gillian Welch?? Otherwise looks pretty awesome…

  6. KellyNo Gravatar Says:

Good point Kyle! I knew I missed a few things, and it just so happens I have a gap that the Welch set will fill quite nicely…good lookin’ out bro!

Lots of good picks, Kelly. Alejandro, the Truckers, and the Swell Season would be high on my list. An absolute is Eli Paperboy Reed & the True Loves closely followed by Nakia & His Southern Cousins. I’d also put Galactic, Rodney Crowell and the Raconteurs on the short list. And, yeah, the Foo Fighters would be on my schedule, too.

  8. KellyNo Gravatar Says:

thanks Mayer, I hope I get there early enough for crowell, and I will make sure to try and get soem of that paperboy reed set too. i caught galacctic at the 2006 acl and they are perfect for a festival environment!

Thanks for the nod, Mayer - I agree she can totally squeeze in the second half of our set at the WaMu stage on Sunday - and I promise it will be worth it! Hell - I guarantee it!!

  11. KellyNo Gravatar Says:

Thanks Nakia! i’ll plan on stopping by, I dig what i have heard so far…also, I am a “guy” kelly cursed with a girls name, its cool, it happens a lot!

  12. KellyNo Gravatar Says:

There are more Kelly named guys than you can imagine. Some Killer Kelly’s that are well known: Kelly Slater, Kelly Kisio, Kelly Holcomb, Kelly Tripucka, Kelly Johnson, Kelly Stinnett, Kelly Gruber, You, me and many others…well Kelly isn’t the most manly name..it beats Dick ;)
    Have a nice One!
