The Posies are throwing themselves a year-long birthday party and we’re all invited. The group, anchored by Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, released their first album 30 years ago. They’ve been through a lot in the subsequent years – the ups and downs of being on a major label, rhythm section personnel changes and more than one musical hiatus.
The one constant throughout the band’s history is songwriting that is both melodic and electrifying, often complimented by stellar harmonies. It is something well worth celebrating.
And celebrate, they shall. The group is embarking on an extended tour of the US and Europe (with Twangville fave Terra Lightfoot in tow for most of the US dates) and be releasing several of their most acclaimed albums (more info here).
Here are two videos that showcase the two sides of the band. First up is a fiery version of “Please Return It” from the soon to be re-released album Amazing Disgrace. Second is the harmony-rich “I May Hate You Sometimes” from their debut album Failure.
