Even if you don’t buy into the culture that emerged around the Grateful Dead, it’s hard not to appreciate the songs that they created. Kristin Andreassen responded to a fan request and turned out this exquisite version of the Dead’s “Brokedown Palace.”
“I might not have had the courage to tackle this epic Grateful Dead show closer if Nion McEvoy hadn’t commissioned it through the Pledge Music campaign that helped fund my new album. I didn’t want to mess around, so I went straight to Jefferson Hamer and asked him to play guitar and sing harmony with me. We recorded live in a Nashville garage studio with Alec Spiegelman on bass clarinet and I ended up liking it enough that I asked Nion if I could share his selection on a little Noisetrade EP that we put together for next week. You will be able to download the track for free there if you like it!”
