AIM Tunes, Share Music With Your Buddies

aim tunesIts not often that I mix work (AOL) and play (Twangville). But I have a fun announcement to make so I’m gonna stir the pot a little. I work on the AIM Product Design Team and have the pleasure of working with some damn fine designers, developers and product folks. One of our developers cooked up a way to share music among Buddies on your AIM Buddy List under the guise of a new product plugin called AIM Tunes. Simply install the plugin and as long as your Buddy also has the plugin, you can listen to music shared on his or her computer. You can even create personal playlists that feature music from different Buddies. I’m amped about this because Mayer is constantly finding emerging artists, now all I’ll have to do is plug into his AIM Tunes to sample their music before I buy. Sahweet!

Interested in giving it a whirl? Well then you’re gonna have to know how to get it installed. The good news is that its pretty darn easy. You can download and install just the AIM Tunes Plugin or go get yourself a brand spanking new copy of AIM 6.5. It will ask you if you want AIM Tunes during the install process. Check the appropriate box and your journey begins.

Turns out there’s a demo to see how AIM Tunes works. If you wanna sample first. Enjoy!

Hey Josh. In talking with the lead developer it turns out that these are among the top requested features. Unfortunately, as the product is still so young, we’ll all have to wait for a future release for this customization.
