What’s The Best Album of 2012?

As we begin to gather our Editors' Picks for best of the year, we'd love to hear from you first. Throughout the year we host a weekly poll in which you can vote for your favorite new release of the week. From that list we've taken the albums that you voted for the most plus a few of our own recommendations and compiled this list. We try to include only new release full albums. I know it’s impossible to please everybody, but I wish this list had John Fullbright on it – his album is amazing, and he just got nominated for a Grammy for best Americana album. I also love Ryan Bonner’s album Think of England. But I’m happy to vote for Shovels and Rope as well, so that’s good. Thanks for a wonderful website/blog!!

  • Cathal Woods

I put in a vote for Chris Knight. My top 5 would be rounded out by The Great Unknowns, Andrew Combs, Patterson Hood and The Stray Birds in some order!

  • Paul Lacques

Wow, thanks we (I See Hawks In L.A.) are honored!

  • Quintilian B. Nasty

I like the host of choices, but I’m surprised Punch Brothers’ Who’s Feeling Young Now? isn’t a choice.

  • Andy

I with you Lua, it is hard to appease everyone but I expected John Fullbright to be on the list as well. I expected Turnpike Troubadours and Truckstop Darlin to be on the list as well. I voted for Lucero, but Truckstop Darlin’s Hope and the Heart it Breaks is my definite #1.

I don’t know why “The Carpenter” is even on here.

  • Porter

Give me a break, you list 42 albums, many of them excellent but you failed to include John Fullbright whose writing for a 24 year old is lights-out brilliant. AND he was nominated out of nowhere for a Grammy. You should be ashamed………

  • Eli

    The shame is overwhelming…….

This is a COMPLETE JOKE, you can sit there and vote over and over again. So if you look at the votes, a band can sit on here half the day voting over and over, to make it ‘look like’ they had ‘the best album of 2012′. BALONEY!!!
